Once upon a time, Shailene Woodley was set to appear in Sony’s “Amazing
Spider-Man” franchise as Mary
Jane Watson. But after filming scenes for “The Amazing Spider-Man 2,” her role
was scrapped, in favor of keeping the focus on Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone’s
tragic love story as Peter and Gwen.
Still,
even though “Spider-Man” didn’t work out as planned, Woodley hasn’t given up on
her superhero aspirations. Far from it, in fact, as the “Divergent” star told
our friends at MTV UK that she still wants to appear in a superhero movie —
provided the right conditions, of course.
“I would love to be in a superhero movie if
it was Marvel,” she said. “Their movies are so much fun to watch. They take you
on a ride. I love how they’re all interconnected.”
“I
respond to independent films when I watch movies, because I love to feel
affected on a very human, stripped level,” she continued, “but there’s
something about going to those big blockbuster films where you watch people fly
across the sky and have long stretchy arms and supernatural powers… it’s a form
of escapism. It’s like reading a very fictional book. I enjoy it.”
So,
Woodley wants in on the Marvel Cinematic Universe — and considering that the studio’s film slate extends to
2019 right now, there are no
shortage of projects where she could pop up.
