Miley Cyrus and Patrick Schwarzenegger are ''taking a break''

Multiple sources exclusively confirmed that the young Hollywood couple have chosen to take a "break" after dating for nearly five months.

This news may not come as a complete shock to fans, who have witnessed the recent rockiness in their relationship. Things seemed to be smooth sailing for the once-inseparable duo, but things changed when Patrick took his Spring Break trip to Cabo San Lucas in March, where he was photographed getting a little too close for comfort with a girl that wasn't Miley.

Schwarzenegger found himself in hot water over the photos that surfaced showing him and a bikini-clad Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority sister in Mexico, and took to social media at the time to clear the air and defend himself.

"Omg. It's one of my best friends girlfriend..." he tweeted Monday afternoon. "Would NEVER do anything against my GF."

In a following tweet, he wrote, "Girls have guy friends and guys have friends that are girls..."

At the time, a source told E! News that Arnold Schwarzenegger's son was "devastated and heartbroken" to think he had caused Miley any pain.

"He doesn't even know what to do with himself and just wants to hide from the world," the source said. "He's had some of his friends around for support, but he's very down and upset. He hasn't cracked a smile or been able to think about anything except Miley. He's so embarrassed and knows he screwed up."

Miley, meanwhile, remained fairly mum about the whole situation, and although it seemed like things were on a slippery slope to splitsville, the pair were photographed grabbing lunch together upon Patrick's return. So, fans thought things were all good!

However, speculation surrounding the status of their relationship was raised again when they were each spotted hanging out without their significant other on multiple occasions.

The USC student recently had dinner with another former Disney Channel actress, Shake It Up's Bella Thorne. Schwarzenegger, 21, and Thorne, 17, dined with director Scott Speer, 32, at L.A.'s Mud Hen Tavern, but Thorne was quick to let her IG followers know that she and Patrick are just friends.

Schwarzenegger also enjoyed weekend one of Coachella sans Miley, although E! News learned that he wasn't being flirtacious with anyone while partying in the desert.

While enjoying the festival, Cyrus was putting in work at the studio in her usual eyebrow-raising attire. Wearing a top that almost completely exposed her boobs and pasties, Miley joined close friend and music producer Mike Will Made It to work on some new music.

"Put in wek @MikeWillMadeIt," Cyrus wrote on social media while posing with her collaborator. "If u lame that's a shame u can't hang w us…"
