He's got 99 iPhones, but still didn't snag "the one."
If you're looking for a heartwarming story about love and romance, this isn't it. In fact, it's almost the exact opposite—but it's one helluva tale.
Apparently, China celebrates "Singles' Day" on Nov. 11 (a date chosen because of the four lonely 1's in 11/11), when the singles try to woo a special someone in their life. One Guangzhou resident thought it would be perfect to propose to his girlfriend right before the big holiday. Unfortunately, it doesn't seem like she was on board.
Attempting to have an elaborate (we guess?) and definitely expensive set-up to pop the big question, the young programmer's marriage proposal included 99 (!) iPhones 6's placed on the ground and arranged in the shape of a heart. So romantic, right?!
Well, she said no.
Yep, not only is this guy now suffering from a broken heart, but he seriously broke the bank for this proposal. The arrangement, as reported by The Nanfang, cost the young man two years' worth of his salary (about $82,000). Ouch!
While buying 99 iPhones seems extravagant, Nanfang reports that residents purchase huge diamonds and even brand new cars for their special someone on Single's Day.
There's no word on what this young man will do with his surplus of smartphones—Will he return them all? Will he try to sell them and make a profit? Will he turn them all on and surround himself with the company of 99 Siris?
Maybe he'll watch Her and get some ideas.
