The body of Gavin Smith, the Fox executive who went missing in May 2012, has been found over two years after he mysteriously vanished, according to local authorities.
"Sheriff's homicide detectives are continuing their investigation into the death of Gavin Smith, who was last seen at a friend's residence on Tuesday, May 1, 2012, between 9:00 and 10:00 p.m.," read an official update sent out by the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department Information Bureau Thursday morning. "On Sunday morning October 26, 2014, hikers discovered human remains in a rural area of Palmdale. The remains were positively identified as those of Gavin Smith by Los Angeles County Coroner's Office personnel. The results of the autopsy have not been finalized and the cause of death has not yet been determined. There is no more information available at this time."
Smith, who was 57 at the time he disappeared, was a longtime distribution executive for 20th Century Fox. He was reported missing by his wife on May 1 after he failed to pick up one of their kids from school. Police have been investigating Smith's disappearance as a murder since March 2013.
Shortly after he went missing in 2012, it was revealed that Smith, who was married with children, had been having an affair with a woman named Chandrika Creech. Chandrika's estranged husband John Creech was linked to a storage facility where Smith's car was found after his disappearance. John Creech is currently in custody at Men's Central Jail on an unrelated narcotics conviction.
Around the same time that Smith's affair was made public, his son Evan Smith spoke out about his dad's disappearance. "I don't want to think of foul play, but it has entered my mind," Evan said at the time. "We were always in touch, he texted me all the time. It's not like him to go off the grid. That shows how serious this is."
