As
a logo designer you may think color is not as relevant as other aspects of
designing a logo but color is also important. As a logo designer you need to
take into consideration how humans interpret colors. In understanding how
humans interpret colors a designer needs to under the psychology behind colors.
Colors prompt emotional response and it catches the eye of people. Colors are
able to trigger certain emotions, appetite, hunger, moods, behaviors or wants. As
a designer, knowing color meanings is vital and it will help you use each color
properly and accordingly. Since people react to colors easily designers always
have to know what kind of color he or she will use for a particular design.
People associate meaning with colors, so if the wrong color is used; you will
end up conveying the wrong message to people who will be seeing the design.
Some colors could mean calmness, amusement, passion, enthusiasm, creativity, distrust,
peace, playful, balance, energy, trust or adventure. For example orange evokes enthusiasm.
A company’s logo is their identity so the color of their logo should be able to
convey their brand message. When selecting your color choice you can try out
different color combinations. You can also play around with individual colors
and try to match the colors to the overall tone and feel of the brand. The key
is for the designer to use colors that evoke remedying feelings people desire
when they seek for a brand. The kind of color a logo has can also help people
to easily remember the logo design. For instance blue makes a person feel calm
and relaxed. When a person sees a blue logo he will easily have a calm and
relaxed feeling for the brand. A designer should have it at the back of his
mind that the logo is not just for him or her alone to see. As a designer you
might not see anything wrong with a black logo design but people might have a
wrong feeling towards it. To some people yellow means sickness and decay. So if
they see a yellow logo design they will easily think of sickness. As a designer one last thing you should think
of is using subtle colors because they are colors that are assuring and they
inspire confidence in a brand.
